22 week checkup

Today was my once a month check up with small town doc.  For once, I didn’t have to wait a long time for my appointment, he was actually on time!  I’m not really complaining about the wait, I take it as a sign that he spends as much time with each patient as they need.  He certainly takes as much time as we need to answer all our questions.

So the news – everything seems to be going pretty well.  We heard the heartbeat again, which is always one of the best parts of the visit.  The baby was moving around so small town doc had to chase the heartbeat around.

I want another ultrasound so we can tell the gender, and small town doc promised to look for a medically sound reason to order one.  So is it good that he found one?  I’m measuring large for the gestational age – I measured at 24 weeks when I’m only 22 weeks.  So that’s a reason for getting the ultrasound, so they can check on the size of “Cletus the fetus” (as Rich has now started to call him/her).

I’m certainly not looking big, so I was surprised to measure large. Small town doc was very reassuring that it’s not a big problem.  My weight gain is within the normal range, and many women are off a bit from the chart at some point during the pregnancy.  I’m trying to not be concerned, and mostly succeeding.  Of course, I Googled it, and came up with an article listing all the reasons why I may be measuring large in pregnancy.  I can rule out some of the possible reasons (due date off, twins, looser adbominal muscles due to earlier pregnancy).  As for the other, scary possibilities, I’m just not going there.  Let’s see what the ultrasound says.
