Fertility Test Follow Up

After hearing the results of Rich's first semen analysis following his vasectomy reversal, we decided to repeat the test at our doctor's office near Sacramento. Unfortunately, once again, the test resulted in an inadequate volume. We're actually beginning to suspect retrograde ejaculation. It doesn't happen often with him, but occasionally there is no fluid. Rich takes Flomax, a medication used to treat benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH), which has been implicated as one possible cause of retrograde ejaculation. Regardless though, it was worth the visit. Dr. Gould assured us that since we are only two months post vasectomy reversal, Rich's sperm count is still likely to increase. He gave the odds of it decreasing at only 5 percent, while the odds of it staying the same are about 5 to 10 percent. That gives us much more hope of improvement! We also discussed the option of freezing sperm, which I had assumed would be used for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). According to Dr. Gould, if Rich is able to produce sufficient quantity and quality, it could be used for Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) , a much less costly procedure. Technorati tags: , ,
