Fertility test

After interacting with a lab tech, I started using the phrase “fertility test” instead of “semen analysis.” I think the women at the lab registration desk are more comfortable with that! Anyway, I took the test the other day and am awaiting the results. Why would I wait more than 50 days after my vasectomy reversal to have the test?

Well, as I noted before, the first opportunity for semen analysis came while Lisa was fertile, but since I was urged to abstain from ejaculation for 24 to 48 hours prior to collecting a sample, it seemed like trying to get her pregnant was a more appropriate thing to be doing! When I finally went to the local lab for paper work and a specimen jar (yep, they sent me home to collect a sample), the lab said 48 - 72 hours of abstinence.

When I did try to collect the sample, their instructions said to catch every drop. Now that’s fine, but the container they gave me was tiny. Maybe an inch and a half across and about the same depth. So how shall I put this? Um…timing, anxiety, the need to catch it all and…well, lets just say that not enough of a sample was produced.

Then, I had an east coast trip to make, and couldn’t try again until I returned. Which is why it’s taken so long. So stay tuned — the results should be posted soon.

  • we are waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can we ask your ages? do you have children now?

  • Sure, ask away. Actually our ages were in my first post (http://myvasectomyreversal.com/2006/02/my-vasectomy-reversal-introduction.html). Hmm, bet that didn”t wrap. Anyway, Lisa has had a birthday since then, so we are now 50 and 35. I have a 19 year old daughther who may finally get a sibling!

  • oops… guess i should read the directions :) ok the link worked after cutting and pasting… how long between the vasectomy and the reversal?

  • 15 years!

  • That does sound like a small container. I doubt I could catch it in that either if I was to help my partner out (hehe).

I hope your results come back really great. Fingers crossed.
