Fertility test

After interacting with a lab tech, I started using the phrase “fertility test” instead of “semen analysis.” I think the women at the lab registration desk are more comfortable with that! Anyway, I took the test the other day and am awaiting the results. Why would I wait more than 50 days after my vasectomy reversal to have the test?

Well, as I noted before, the first opportunity for semen analysis came while Lisa was fertile, but since I was urged to abstain from ejaculation for 24 to 48 hours prior to collecting a sample, it seemed like trying to get her pregnant was a more appropriate thing to be doing! When I finally went to the local lab for paper work and a specimen jar (yep, they sent me home to collect a sample), the lab said 48 – 72 hours of abstinence.

When I did try to collect the sample, their instructions said to catch every drop. Now that’s fine, but the container they gave me was tiny. Maybe an inch and a half across and about the same depth. So how shall I put this? Um…timing, anxiety, the need to catch it all and…well, lets just say that not enough of a sample was produced.

Then, I had an east coast trip to make, and couldn’t try again until I returned. Which is why it’s taken so long. So stay tuned — the results should be posted soon.
