First prenatal visit
Yesterday, I had my first doctor’s appointment following our BFP. I was a little nervous, but the visit was reassuring. The most reassuring part was the ultrasound. When I had the miscarriage a few months ago, I had an ultrasound, and our Small Town Doc said he could see the gestational sac. This time, not only could he see the sac, he could see that there is something inside it. Yay! There is a little life forming! It’s about the same point in the pregnancy, so it was very comforting to have more to see this time. He gave me a copy of the ultrasound, which he didn’t offer last time. I interpret that as a good sign, too. Last time, I was already spotting when I had my first appointment at about 5 weeks. This time, no spotting, more to see in the ultrasound, and our first baby picture!

So here it is. Without Small Town Doc’s help, I wouldn’t have seen anything – but what he tells me is that the gestational sac, which is right near the center and circled in red, measures at 4 weeks, 6 days – right on target for when I ovulated.
Small Town Doc understands that I am nervous about this pregnancy, and he gave in to all of my demands. I’m going in Monday for the first blood HCG level, and a progesterone level check, and we’ll check them again in a few days to see if the HCG level is doubling. I’ll also get a trans-vag ultrasound at 6 weeks to check for a heartbeat. Hopefully, everything continues to go well, since I fly away for the holidays right after that. I’m not sure I’d be emotionally stable enough to go visit both our families for the holidays if something goes wrong!
As for other pregnancy symptoms, no morning sickness yet, although I got car sick a lot more quickly than normal today. My breasts are tender and I have to pee a lot. Amazingly, I’m happy about this, since it makes me feel that things are going the way they are supposed to. I’ll even be happy about morning sickness if I get it!
