Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
What are the options if a vasectomy reversal isn't succesful? When the first semen analysis results came back low, we instantly thought about the worst case scenarios — IVF, sperm donors, adoption. Fortunately, we were able to meet with our doctor soon thereafter, and he reassured us that we had other options and that there was no need to panic.
While we aren't to that point yet, one option that we could end up considering is intrauterine insemination or IUI. IUI is much simpler and less costly than IVF. The success rate is around 15 to 20% per cycle, although this is affected by many things, including sperm count. Costs can be as low as $200 per cycle, but fertility treatments and tests can dramatically increase the costs. IVF, on the other hand, is much more expensive, invasive and risky.
