My Vasectomy Reversal – An Introduction
I'm a 50 year old man getting ready to undergo a vasectomy reversal . My wife is 34 and wants a child (now that's an understatement). We live in Northern California — I'm the Executive Director of a nonprofit; she is a drug and alcohol counselor for the local schools. As it says in the header, I'm intending this to be a personal account. In the weeks to come, I'll share with you some relevant personal history, how we decided on a surgeon, my anxieties about having a child at my age, and of course, my experience with the surgery itself. So stick around and get an inside look at a life-changing experience.

Rich,
I have found a very well rounded and informative site dedicated to Vasectomy Reversals and the procedure. You may have even seen the billboards if you took a road trip out to Texas.
http://www.vasectomyreversal.com/
This Doctor really knows how to describe his procedure and gave some very good advice to a few of my friends, they now have a baby girl :>)
The web site has an interesting set of diagrams located at:

Thanks Rich,
My wife is 30 and like yours, having a child is a priority for her…and I mean big time!!!
I am 54 and have had a vasectomy 24 years ago. My reversal is now just a little over a week old and want to thank you for having taken the time to write a blog. It helped me more than I can express in words.

Denis,
I’m curious to hear (if you return here) how your reversal went, if thats not a hassle. My husband is 52 turning 53 this year and we’re planning a reversal in the next month, his vasectomy was about 22 years ago. When we’ve done TESAs there have always been plenty of sperm and we have about 11 straws currently frozen with our embryos.
I’m really wishing we’d done this over 2 years ago when we started IVF. Our then IVF specialist told us that because of antibodies it wouldn’t work and we would need IVF anyway. Now I’m starting to wonder if its a conspiracy (aware of how that sounds). After all, IVF is turning into a business. And today my current IVF specialist essentially told me – his business is infertility and IVF, not reversals. Hmmpf! I’m hoping there is a chance, because I do fall pregnant (just dont stay pregnant) and I’m nearly 27, hopefully that’s decent odds and enough incentive to try the reversal.
