Old New Dads

Babble, a parenting site, has posted an extensive article about men having kids in their golden years. The piece does a pretty good job of exploring the personal, financial and social aspects of older men having kids via vasectomy reversal. As the father of a vasectomy reversal baby myself, I found the article fascinating.

Another new article cites some interesting statistics that I haven’t seen before, attributed to Dr. Donald R. Pohl, founder of Vasectomy Reversals of Texas…

“…as many as 90 percent of his patients are men who have re-married. About 8 percent feel they “stopped too soon” and want a larger family, and a small percentage, 1-2 percent, lost a child to illness or accident.”

  • we are preg again after my husbands vas reversal. It is our 4th preg after the reversal (2 miscarriages). Hope you guys are well!

  • Wow…I stumbled onto your site through Stirrup Queen’s blog list. Firstly, its so awesome that you’re a dad again, congratulations! Secondly, its uncanny – some of the similarities – my husband is currently 52 and we’ve been desperately trying IVF for about 2 years now. Unfortunately, hubby’s vasectomy was abouit 22 years ago and my initial research through Dr Google doesn’t make them good odds. Which is sad because hubby really wants to try a reversal.
Anyways…going to start reading through your site in earnest now. Cheers

  • p.s. I’ve linked to this site on my blog, in case someone stumbles in that needs a little positivity about vasectomy reversals. cheers, S

  • Thank you for sharing your story. After much internet trawling I stumbled upon your blog yesterday, and it gave me renewed hope that things would work out for my husband and I.
Ben had a vasectomy when he was 35, beleiving he was not cut-out for marriage and kids. Fast forward 5 years and things have changed!
We have decided to go ahead with the Vas reversal, and fingers crossed we too have success.
Your blog is a ray of hope amongst the depressing stories and worrying statistics found online.
Wishing you all the best for your parenting adventures.

  • Five years! Sounds like you have every chance of success. Good luck!
