Post-Vasectomy reversal active sports
I thought my only snowboarding trip this year would be the one a couple of weeks before my vasectomy reversal. We’re having a late winter in Northern California and, since it’s been over 30 days since the surgery, I thought we could get in a quick trip. After all, the doctor’s post-vasectomy reversal instructions said…
“No strenuous activity (athletics, heavy lifting, extreme exertion) for thirty (30) days.”
I called to check anyway and my doctor gave me the go ahead, with the caveat that if things start hurting down there, stop!
So my wife and I took off Friday afternoon and spent all day Saturday and Sunday on the slopes. The only extra precaution I took was wearing a jock strap. I thought a little extra support might be in order.
How did it go? Well, I fell a LOT on Saturday with no ill effects. Today I improved greatly, but managed to take my worst fall of the weekend, a nasty hit to my tailbone on an icy surface. There was general agony and numbness to everything in the vicinity and I thought I was finished for the day. But after a few minutes lying in the snow, I regained my composure. By the time I got down to the lifts, I was ready to go again and ended up snowboarding until they closed for the day.
There was no apparent damage, though we’ll see what my first post-vasectomy reversal semen analysis says when I get checked for the first time later this coming week.
The only other thing I want to mention is that this was a fairly aggressive outing. I’m sure I fell dozens of times, and we spent all day Sunday on the slopes (mostly black diamond) with only one morning bathroom break and then a break for lunch. My wife and I do a lot of adventure sports and we tend to take it a little more seriously than most folks. With a little luck, I’ll be reporting here on some other adventure sports activities. We’ll see how “the boys” hold up under other circumstances.
