Retrograde ejaculation

According to Wikipedia, “retrograde ejaculation occurs when the fluid to be ejaculated, which would normally exit via the urethra, is redirected towards the urinary bladder. Normally the sphincter of the bladder contracts and the sperm goes to the urethra towards the area of least pressure. In retrograde ejaculation this sphincter does not work well. Causes may be in the autonomic nervous system or the operation of the prostate.”

Put more simply, nothing (or at least very little) comes out. Clearly, this isn’t a good thing if you’re trying to conceive (TTC).

I have been taking Flomax for benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). Lisa did some research on this subject and found out that Flomax has been implicated in retrograde ejaculation. After a couple of discussions with my doctor, he had me try Ditropan, “an anticholinergic medication used to relieve urinary and bladder difficulties, including frequent urination and inability to control urination (urge incontinence), by decreasing muscle spasms of the bladder.”

This is an entirely different approach that doesn’t treat BPH. Perhaps I was misdiagnosed, or perhaps Ditropan will give me some relief anyway. I’ve been on it several days now and so far, so good.
