TTC after miscarriage
Since my regular OB/GYN was on vacation, I ended up with a different doctor when I had the miscarriage. Now I’ve spoken with my regular OB, and got a different answer about when we can begin trying to conceive. As I said before, the first doctor told us we could go ahead and try to get pregnant when we felt emotionally ready. He said that the advice to wait is not medically determined. However, my regular OB was insistent that we wait for three months before trying again. According to him, we have a higher risk of miscarrying again if we try too soon. Not sure who to believe, I searched for answers. It seems that the professional community is as divided as my two doctors. The American Pregnancy Association says it’s best to wait two or three cycles before trying to conceive after a miscarriage. However, the director of obstetrics and gynecology at Providence Portland Medical Center says there is no medical reason to stop us from trying to get pregnant after a miscarriage.
So now what? Since I don’t really want to wait, I’m going to compromise. We’ll wait one cycle, then start trying. Given Rich’s low sperm count, it may take a while anyway!
