Vasectomy Reversal: Vasovasostomy or Vasoepididymostomy?
Those are big words; maybe that’s why you sometimes see them hyphenated as vaso-vasostomy and vaso-epididymostomy. Vasectomy reversals are subdivided into these two different procedures, so let’s take a closer look. Vaso-vasostomy or Vaso-epididymostomy? The vaso-vasostomy is an easier and simpler procedure, in which the severed ends of the vas deferens are reconnected. It tends to have a higher success rate than a vaso-epididymostomy, which is more likely to be performed if it has been over five years since the vasectomy or if a granuloma (a “blow out” that may cause an epididymal obstruction) is present at the vasectomy site.
